Lunch with Dolphin and Fish

Yay! It's Friday! It is also Teacher Appreciation Day! This gave me lots of excuse to cook simple dimple lunch for my girl. :) (plus use my another mold which I bought during Chinese New Year)

Dolphin is mold by white rice. I steam pumpkin and mold to fish shape which the pumpkin maybe steam too long and easy to break. :s Dolphin is surrounding with Hokkaido cream stew chicken, potatoes and carrots.

Serve with pumpkin corn soup (not showed in picture).

3D Panda

I need to take charge full time house cleaning and chef for this whole week as mom in law was just back from cataract surgery. Foods need to separate cook as doctor advice her to take soft food. Chinese always have Do's and Don't after any surgery. :s

Such a short time preparation, I decide to make the panda! Panda is always one of my favorite. :) I tried to make this in 3D.

The ears, hands and legs are rice wrap with nori. It is serve with fish cake and "Chun Juan" Egg roll skin wrap with pork meat. Panda is holding hm...over-cooked asparagus.

Panda Sushi

It was 3:30am in the morning, I have to wake up to cook the rice while everyone still sleeping zzzz. While cooking rice time, I need to fried finger foods - nuggets to bring along. Everything seems so smooth to go.I manage to make 100 pieces of panda sushi for outdoor picnic. 

Tadaa! I must say big thank you to Li Ming as she gave me great idea to make this in bulk faster and easier way. ;p My girl love this so much and say this round she can buy her friends panda! :) Glad she like this.

After mold it out, I wrap it with cling wrap so children can easily munch it whenever they want.

  

We reach there by 8:30am just right time as children can have sand play, and running wildly. We having fun as games invited parents and children. I have throw this task to William as I was volunteer myself as unprofessional photographer cum videographer.

when it is tea-break, children are so excited to try out. I do not have the time to snap moment they enjoy this as I was grabbed by few parents to throw out another Q&A session on this panda. :s 

It is fun journey trip indeed. ;p

Come Home, MH 370

It was 12th days MH 370 missing from space....from earth.We as usual no matter how busy we are, our household radio or TV will always tune on mode to hope we can receive update news regards to this aircraft. Team rescue and searching had been increased from 5 to 10 to even 26 countries. Appreciate those countries giving hands in helping searching passengers and crews from the flight. 

The plane is made by rice and adding details by nori. It was served with braised egg, fried fish and some steam fish with wild berries.

Olivia can sense from this bento I made and told me mom, they (MH370) will be safe and will be back soon!

Stay calm adn pray for MH 370 crew, passengers and families. 

LINE Brown Bento

I was awake early this morning and feel like want to cook fried rice for William to work. Same goes to mother in law and Olivia.

I cooked it with vegetarian mock meat, ham, peas and corns. It is simple fried rice indeed. :) 

I made the LINE Brown not dark enough and end up William say this is sick bear. Olivia say this is LINE Brown. :s Details are made by cheese and nori.

It is also pack with cherry tomatoes and grapes.

Toy Story: Alien Bento

Alien was one of my last week post too! :) 

Toy story 3 eyes Aliens is one of my girl favorite character. She never get bored to watch this movie over and over again. 

The alien is made from rice, colour by deco furi. Perhaps I should try to extract out from natural food i.e. blue from blue pea flower, green from pandan leaf, purple from purple cabbage, etc. It really time consuming. I should give salute to mummies who putting so much effort in it. ;p

The rice is served with pork patties, baby carrots and steam corns.

Doraemon Sushi Bento

It was one of my last week post. :) I do not have enough longer hours or minutes to sit in front on monitor as so many laundry work need to be done before mother in law back to KL. ;p 

I always wanted to make cartoon character in sushi roll, but I am not brave enough (no courage) to try as I seldom and hardly prepare lunch for her. After seeing so much sushi roll made by Bento Monsters, I finally push myself to step out my first step to try this Doraemon. :)

Doraemon are made from rice. I need white small roll and blue roll for outer. Wrap it tight and adding details by nori, cheese and crab stick.

It is ink roller. Do you notice its eyes? ^-^

Personally feel was not perfect wrap but I guess for the first attempt cartoon sushi roll consider very nice. Hehe

Mid-Autumn: Chang Er Bento

Mid-Autumn festival falls on 19 September, Thursday. I am just too excited to use rice to make bento for this theme. :) It is another opportunity for me to make Chang E in rice type.

For the lunch bento, I made little girl with holding bunny lantern. The girl is made from rice and bunny is pick. 

It is packed with meatballs, fresh baby carrots and grapes. There is a fish paste soup which I forgot to include in it. :s

I actually plan to use the quail egg to make the bunny as lantern. I changed to use bunny pick as I am taking too long to prepare the Chang Er. :s

William, Olivia and I are participating this lantern competition by using recycled materials. It is our first time to make this, the paper materials supplied by schools. Initial we plan to use can / tin to make the lantern and after thinking design and tedious work and lots of kids participating maybe little and little. We change to use box instead of can. 

The drawing Chang E is drawn by me. :) From far angle see, look good. Closer look, you will find rough workmanship. ;p

After submit this and chit chat with the principal, I changed the plan in making Minion for her as I feel this lantern above is abit traditional and old fashioned.

Happy Mid Autumn Festival!

Smurf Bento

La la la la la lalalalalala.....Yep. I made my very first smurf. Olivia used to sing this rhythm when is free or doing something.

Smurf is made from rice, I colour it by deco furi and maybe not well mix as you may see some slight dark and some are not. It is served with sausage egg and potatoes carrot soup. 

Cat Bus Bento

I had been missing weeks for busying...

- getting stuffs for my parents 
- Kaylas' present. 
- SICK! Bad cough came back again.....

This week am fully in-charged meals for the little one and William (mother in law went back to Penang to off 1 week). 

I made the cat bus by rice. Details are made from nori, bbq cheese and crab stick. Chibi totoro is made from quail egg. 

It is served with salt butter corn, cherry tomatoes and Elle & Vire Fruits (Opps...still inside the fridge). 

Care Bear Bento

Care Bear characters originally are for use in greeting cards in 1981, they start appeared on tv shows was on 1983. Each Care Bear comes in a different color and has a specialized insignia on its belly that represents its duty and personality. This insignia was known as their "tummy symbol. ;p 

I had give myself a try to make cheer bear but it turn up not really meet my expectation. :(

I made this Cheer Bear from rice with coloured with deco furi, details are add on by cheese and nori. It is also served with Oyster Chicken with potatoes and carrots. 

Girly Bear Bento

Yay! It is school holiday fr 2 weeks! My girl was so happy that she can rest (watch cartoon) at home for 2 weeks. :) However, I had special arranged with the principal that she can only have second week holiday. She will still go to school (1st week) in casual ware joining day care class to have all activities except tv. 

Arrghh kind of cruel to them ya? Initial yes, but afterall thinking 2 weeks stay at home majority hours she will spend is tv. I think sending her to school to have learning activities will be more fun and meaningful.

It is lazy Sunday, Olivia have slight flu and we are kind of lazy to crowded mall. I prepare her rice with preserved sausages, chickens and mushrooms. Chickens and preserved sausages had been cut into minced small pieces.

Bear nose is made from BBQ cheese and nori for nose, eyes and ears. I also add on the hats for this bear. :)

I also pack it with fresh orange and grapes. Orange rich in vitamin C. Get well soon my dear.

Kiiroitori Bento

Happy Wesak Day!

We used to bring Olivia to SS3 Wesak Charity Sales. It is quite meaningful day and Olivia love to go not only the delicious food fair but also she is also able to enjoy arts play. :)

I bought her vegetarian chicken rice. She ate few scoop and she claimed that she is still full and no choice we brought back to home. 

Well, I reheat back the rice and suddenly the rice colour flash me to this cutey Kiiroitori. :) with adding cheese and nori, Kiiroitori is live! She love it! She ate Kiiroitori with vegetarian chicken. 

I also added some grapes for her.

Squirrel Bento

Happy Friday! I received my parcel from Bento Berries and one of it is squirrel picks. Yeah, so excited to use it and thanks to her that free picks to me too. Arghh....just love it.

Squirrel is made from brown rice and rice colour is use deco furi. Detailed is made from nori and cheese. I just noticed my squirrel look like bear bear o. 

Squirrel is served with cod fish, tofu fish cake and grapes. 

Remarks: So coincidence squirrel I made today fall under category of underground creatures category - ”地下生物“。

Mickey and Minnie Bento

Today I finally made my favourite cartoon character i.e. Mickey & Minnie. I always wanted to try this out by rice. 

Mickey and Minnie are made from rice and wrap with nori. Ears are made by prunes. Mickey and Minnie detailed are made by cheese, crab stick and nori.

Bento is served with prunes, baby corn and terriyaki meatball and soup. 

This is her cheeky look after saw her minnie. ^-^

Last but not least...I would like to say bigggg Arigato Li Ming and Daisy Selalu without them, I may not able to get this Mickey Minnie Picks from Disney Japan! It is my precious picks. ^-^

Bunny Easter Bento

It is the first day school after her Term 1 holiday, I was fully in charge her meal and dinner as my in law want to go back Penang for cleaning her parents graveyard (hubbys' grandparents) 

I still manage to post out my belated Easter bento today. The bunny are made from rice, added with little ketchup as pinkish cheek. Nori added its facial expression. I deep fried spaghetti stick to had crispy. 

Boneless Terriyaki Chicken hide just behind bunny. :) Chick are made from quail egg. I actually plan to add ham as cheeky and bunny ears as the little one say she is so hungry and tol me it is good enough. 

I also pack it with fresh baby corn and grapes and her favorite Easter Eggs. 

Remarks: I was honored my this Bunny Easter bento was the chosen one and most view & votes from Bento Blog Network. 

Angry Bird Bento

It was an lazy hot Sunday! I am preparing simple lunch and steam egg for my girl.

The angry bird (black) is rice wrap up with nori and I also added 2 fish cake which I bought from market. Steam pork egg is served.

Girl wear Dragon Hat Bento

This year is still the year of Dragon under Chinese Calendar, until the coming the Chinese New Year will declare as Snake Year.

I was excited to try out this by using rice. lol (not brave enough)

The dragon are coloured with deco furi, use the cling wrap to shape the rice. Use the spaghetti to maintain the position you wish to. Details facial add on by nori. The meat is vegetarian meat as it is 15th of Chinese calendar year, I will normally on half day vegetarian. I am glad she is willing to give herself a try. ^-^

I also add on grapes which you hardly see as it is just right behind this girl. ;p   

Between, my family and I are really in count down moods which 15days later will Chinese New Year - Snake Year and I will have 1 week trip back to my parent house rest and relax. I start day dream my families, friends, relatives and my lovely doggies at another side, East Malaysia.

20130105 - Caterpillar Bento

I made this caterpillar to remind myself that she always gives me joy, happiness and surprise! Besides, I make this caterpillar for her as it will remind me from time to time as at when her conversation with William.

Like usual, her daddy will call her little princess after lunch.

Daddy: Hey sweetie, what you eat today? Have fun at school?

Olivia: Yeah, already! Daddy, today we saw caterpillar! Daddy, Caterpillar in English and Chinese is 毛毛虫 "Mao Mao Chong" then what about in Malay?

Daddy: ......(his mind went blank) Errr....wait ya, (he quickly SOS to ask help from his colleagues. One of his colleagues say it could be "Ulat") Oh dear, it is "Ulat"

Olivia: Wrong! It is round, and not caterpillar!

Daddy: Huh? (he realized over the phone, she heard it as "Bulat" means round instead of "Ulat"

Olivia: Never mind, I will ask other people (I guess she is referring either mother in law or my brother or me) but daddy.....PLEASE READ MORE BOOKS! You are lack of this. Please go back HOME and read more books, okay?

Daddy: (Speechless but) OOoooo.... =.='

Snowman and Penguin Xmas Bento

I had been quiet for this December Seasons. I had promised her make a Xmas bento for her and today was really a chance for me to use rice to make snowman for her. (She informed me she never seen the real snow before, I tried to make this little snowman to tell her. Mummy will try to fulfill her wish) 

First of all, I must took 2 tablets of Activ Fast Panadol to reduce my fever. :s gosh...38.99 I had been struggled from fever since last night. Hubby start force me to take panadol. Hm...not really anti medicine but sometime I feel if it is allow I would to to depends my own immune body system to win this battle. well, it is obviously, I lost this match. 

I made the snowman and penguin by 3 rice balls, quail egg with little mayo and serve with carrot, corns & steam fish balls. She do not like corns and surprisingly she enjoy this round, she can finish her food within 30 minutes. I was really happy with this. 

It is a calm and peaceful Christmas eve with my beloved family. I wish all of my friends a Merry Christmas!
